Llandeilo Fawr Opening Concert 2022.

The warm relationship which the Llandeilo Fawr Festival has established with the John S Davies Singers has already led to some truly memorable performances warmly appreciated by audiences. On this occasion, opening the 2022 Festival, we were treated to the ever-perfect intonation of the Singers and the consistent excellence of the orchestral playing of the Westward Chamber Orchestra led by the distinguished violinist David Juritz.

The first half of the concert was given over to performances of the F major Organ Concerto by Handel with Simon Pearce, organist of St Davids Cathedral followed by a Chandos Anthem ‘Let God Arise,’ also by Handel.

Following an intensely satisfying and authoritative performance, this time of Haydn’s famous Maria Theresa Mass, the knowledgeable audience was on its feet as the last strains of music died away. The vocal soloists on this occasion were Vicki Field, Angharad Davies, Rhodri Prys Jones and Emyr Lloyd Jones.

The evening was recognized as a hugely successful and satisfying start to the week of music at Llandeilo Fawr.
